Tradition and Modernity

Tradition and Modernity, two words that are often deemed as contradictory. In my opinion, these are two very different things that can actually benefit from each other if used in the correct manner. When we hear the word Tradition, we think of it as a thing of the past, and when we hear the word Modernity, we'd think of something that is occurring. According to Paul de Man, "Modernity exists in the form of a desire to wipe out whatever came earlier, in the hope of reaching at least a point that could be called a true present, a point of origin that marks a new departure." While according to David Emery, "A belief, custom, story, or practice (etc.) handed down from generation to generation by word of mouth or demonstration." 

If we think about it, Tradition and Modernity are two words that entails progress when put together. If you remember the saying, too much of anything is bad. Look at the two photos below. In the first one, the dress I'm wearing shows off a traditional Asian look, which itself is beautiful. I wore it together with hair from D!va. The hair isn't the traditional style that is usually worn with this type of dress, but it goes nicely with it. I look like I can go on a nice date, perhaps a ladies' night out.

The second photo shows a modern take on the wedding dress. It's not the usual long and white gown you see people wear, but the style of the hair used is sort of traditional. I've put flowers on my hair as well. If you think about it, the two words we've been trying to figure out earlier works together to create beautiful outcomes.
